What do we study?
This is only a brief introduction of the research group. Feel free to write to us to know more about us!
Research Areas
Team Leader: Won Joon Shim

ShimWon Joon Shim obtained his PhD on Organotin pollution in Korea and he is a world renowned researcher in that field. He has spent considerable time developing ecosystem health index for Korean waters. After the Taean oil spill in 2007 in Korea, he is leading the KORDI research on Oil Pollution.

Taean Oil Spill
one of the largest in Korean history has been investigated by OPRG since 2007, the time of the accident. OPRG has been awarded a US$ 2.5 million grant/year for this project.Watch video clips of Taean Oil Spill here!
Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs)
OPRG is one the leading labs in Korea conducting state-of-the-art POPs research. It monitors not only Korea coast but the Yellow Sea and the Arctic. Among the various recent initiative Passive Air Sampling has been one. Both classical POPs and emerging contaminants are investigated alone and with International collaborations such as IFREMER, PML, NOAA.
AMETEC
OPRG has taken charge of APEC Marine Environmental Training and Education Center since 1994 and conducted over 20 international workshops. Technology transfer, training and cooperation are the behind this endevour between developing economies in Asia Pacific region and Republic of Korea.
